The Mayfield Lab
The Mayfield lab works at the interface of chemistry, biology, and pathology to elucidate the subtle contribution of protein conformational change to cell signaling in both health and disease.
Through application of protein purification, structural biology, mass spectrometry, in vitro reconstruction, and targeted cellular models we hope to gain a mechanistic understanding of signaling events.
Research Highlights
Sarah’s paper “Sex-specific disruptions in PKCγ signaling in a mouse model of spinocerebellar ataxia type 14” in JCI Insight is highlighted as the cover story (PMID: 41926327).
Co-immunoprecipitation, peptide arrays, and structural modeling reveal cellular prion protein (PrPC) engages the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) at two binding sites. Published in ACS Biochemistry (PMID: 41860118).
